This pentacle, like all pentacles or pentagrams, is a symbol of the five elements from which the cosmos is made: the Earth, Water, Fire, Air and Spirit. It is inverted and some say that this gives it a negative power. The truth is that it offers protection from negative energy, hexes and curses. It means the descent of the spirit into matter - when inverted the pentacle has Spirit at the bottom point with the elements above and is said to mean "From the Spirit grows the Physical". It represents the Horned God, Cernunnos, the consort to the Great Goddess, and corresponds to the five part cycle: birth, initiation, marriage, death and rebirth.
