The Story of Shaddow Domain: Episode 4 - Failure is Not an Option

I started my work transition by changing my schedule at Chesbro to part time and opening the store from noon to six. I quickly learned that was not a feasible schedule as business turned out to be better than expected and that was simply too many hours to work. If memory serves me (and it rarely does), I left Chesbro, my dependable job for almost 19 years, to work the store full time in February of 2002. At the original writing of this historical account, I had recently learned that many of my Chesbro co-workers talked amongst themselves at the time of my departure about what a horrible mistake I was making, which I totally understand. Their concern warmed my heart, and the fact that it took twenty years for anyone to tell me what an absolutely stupid decision I was making makes me laugh.

As I mentioned in our last installment, I was not (and am still not) boss material, but for many years I ran the store alone with my kids, so my deficiency of leadership abilities and general lack of business knowledge wasn’t an issue. I have many many great memories of the time spent with them and their friends. We basically just made it work. Like it says in the title, failure wasn't an option!

I do have a lot more pictures, but at the time I first shared this, this was the only early pic I could find with a kid, love you Zakk! Don't' hate me for sharing this!

In our next installment we'll go in into how we actually acquired the elusive building and how close we came to not having that opportunity.

Toodles for now!
